Ralph J. Poole is Professor of American Studies at Salzburg University. His publications include a book on satirical and autoethnographical “cannibal” texts, and most recently a collection of essays on “dangerous masculinities.” He is co-editor of Passionate Politics: The Cultural Work of American Melodrama from the Early Republic to the Present. His research interests include American literature, drama, gender/queer/masculinity studies, popular culture, and transatlantic negotiations.

Verena Holztrattner holds an MA in “English Studies and the Creative Industries” from the University of Salzburg. She worked as a student assistant at the department of English and American Studies from October 2012 until February 2015 and has gained extensive work experience in the field of theater directing through several internships. Her research interests include Theater and Performance Studies, Gender Studies, and Women’s Studies, all of which are reflected in her MA thesis entitled “Staging Gender: Female Voices, Absurdist Visions, Subversive Acts.” She is currently working on her dissertation which is concerned with the subversive qualities of comedies read and performed in the early American Republic with a special focus on their impact on the renegotiation of American gender roles at the time.

Leopold Lippert holds a PhD in American Studies from the University of Vienna (2015), awarded for a dissertation entitled Performing America Abroad. In his post-doc project, he is concerned with the relationship of comedy and the public sphere in 18th-century America. He is a member of the DFG Research Network “Cultural Performance in Transnational American Studies” and has published on a number of topics in performance studies, gender studies, as well as transnational American studies.

Michael Streif is a PhD student at the University of Salzburg. He is working on a dissertation on homosociality and political farcical dialogue in pre-revolutionary America. He was awarded the “Fulbright Prize for Best Master’s Thesis of the Year” in 2013 for “The Hollywood Conque(e)ror: Marlene Dietrich and the Representation of Gender Roles and (Homo)Sexuality in Classical American Cinema” (2012). His research interests include Gender and Queer Studies, Film studies, and African American literature.
